Waste Streams
Bulky Waste (Including POPs)
Compliant collection and disposal of upholstered furniture and items containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
Ensuring the Safe Disposal of Potentially Hazardous Items
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are toxic chemicals found in older upholstered furniture. Because they can be harmful, there are strict rules for how they’re handled and disposed of. We make it easy for your business to stay safe and compliant.

Sustainable Solution
We prevent toxic POPs chemicals from contaminating the environment by recovering the waste and directing it to EfW plants, where it’s safely processed and used to generate energy.

Which Items Contain POPs?
It is mostly upholstered seating
POPs are usually found in upholstered items like sofas, armchairs, futons, and office chairs. Non-upholstered seating is unlikely to contain POPs but if you’re unsure, our team can provide expert advice on how to check.
Compliance from start to finish
A legally required, two-stage process
UK Law requires that all POPs items go through a two-stage process. First, they must be stored separately to avoid contamination of other waste. Second, they must be sent for incineration at an Energy from Waste (EfW) plant. As an authorised processor, we ensure this pathway is completed from start to finish and you remain fully compliant.
Guidance for Office Furniture
Keeping it simple for your business.
The official guidance for end-of-life upholstered office furniture is to treat it as containing POPs unless it can be proven otherwise. This can get confusing but, at Countrystyle, our dedicated team will help you navigate this guidance and the rules so that you remain fully compliant.
